About Balding for Dollars Whistler

Balding for Dollars Whistler started in 2002 with what was planned to be a one off event.  The manager of the  day at the GLC (Garibaldi Lift Co), Mike Varrin,  graciously offered us the use of a corner of the bar to host our event.  What developed that day back in April 2002 was a very strong following for the concept of shaving your head in support of kids with cancer.  More specifically, kids with cancer at the BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver.  As they say, the rest is history.

The event was instantly a crowd favorite and over the years has become a mainstay amongst some of Whistler's most anticipated fundraisers.  For those who participate year after year it is a way to show their support for the wonderful services that are provided to children suffering from these horrible diseases.  Now in it's 15th year, Whistler Balding for Dollars has raised over $384,000 in support of these kids and their programs on the oncology wards.

Not only has this event spurred on an annual harvest of locks here in Whistler, it has inspired the birth and evolution of a grass roots organization called Whistler Friends that now produces multiple fundraising events each year here in Whistler.
